Sucker Bets and Why They Should be Avoided at All Costs

When gambling online, it’s important to not only understand how your chosen game is played. You need to know how to make the right bets that will give you a much higher chance of winning. Experienced gamblers will tell you that in every casino game, there are bets worth focusing on and there are those you’d never want to make due to the low odds they entail.

Knowing what types of bets these are will help you avoid making them while also ensuring that you will not end up wasting your time and money over something that is likely only going to lead to a loss.

Proposition bets must be avoided when playing craps.  These bets leave you betting on a specific thing to happen on the succeeding roll. You may choose to place a hard ways bet where you wager that the house is going to roll a 10, 8, 6 or 4 on a double roll. Unfortunately, the house advantages of these bets are significantly high at 9.1% to 11.1%. This is massive and it’s only very rarely that they will hit. So, you’re better off never making them.

Avoid the tie bet when playing baccarat. In this bet, you are wagering that the player or the banker isn’t going to win. You are betting that there will be a tie for both hands. Unfortunately, this is only going to be a rare occurrence, especially when you are playing baccarat online. The house edge is a whopping 14.1% and is very much considered by seasoned gamblers to be the definition of what a sucker bet is.

Avoid making the insurance bet in a blackjack game.  Blackjack is one of those online casino games where a lot of player skills are involved. But many also prefer to play the game because it offers some of the smallest house advantage, which is good news to the players. However, it is also not immune to sucker bets as the insurance bet is considered one.

The insurance bet could lead to the house having an edge of up to 14%, depending on how many decks are being used in the game. While this bet can work for some players, they have to be highly experienced to pull it off. If you are relatively new, you are better off avoiding this bet.

Progressive side bets are sucker bets. In this bet, you will need to place your wager of a dollar or whatever amount to attempt to hit a side jackpot, this could be $25,000 and up. While these types of jackpots are quite tempting and very rewarding if you do hit them, they are next to impossible to win. Winning this bet would require you to get a Royal Flush first.

Also, if you play a hand with a side bet of $1 twenty times, that’s already $20 dollars you have lost, which you could have wagered on something with a much higher odds and you could have possibly won.

Avoid single-number bets when playing roulette. You are better off not making a bet on single numbers when playing roulette. This is because American roulette features two zero slots compared to just one for the European version. As a result, this pulls up the house edge on American roulette to 5.26%.

A bet on a single number in roulette will only have a winning chance of 1 in 38. You should focus on a red/black or odd/even bets instead as they are known for a lower house advantage.
